Touchless Attendance Tracking

The COVID-19 pandemic has made the world take a closer look at many things, including the education system. As we collectively strive to reduce the disease's new incidences, we find that social distancing, frequently cleaning surfaces, and minimizing unneeded contact with others will dramatically reduce its spread.

If you're using a post-secondary school management system and are required to track attendance hours, STARS Campus Solutions has a feature that allows for totally touchless attendance tracking. The STARS postsecondary career college information software includes a feature we call the "Time Clock." Using a badge printer and barcode reader, students can "clock in" and "clock out" by sliding their badge across the reader. Each scan is recorded automatically in STARS. Once a student "clocks out," STARS calculates the time attended and is ready for posting.

Creating badges for your students is easy. Once you have enrolled a student in the STARS system, you design their badge using the badge printing function. The badge can include a photo of the student, their program of study, estimated graduation date, and student number if desired. The system applies a unique barcode for each student, allowing students to pass their badge in front of the LED light scanner to "clock in" and "clock out."

The Time Clock can also keep track of tardies and absences using student shifts. A student shift delineates the start and end time based on the student's schedule. Students can be assigned up to three shifts to accommodate various attendance schedules.

So, the next time you're considering how to track your students' attendance effectively, safely, and seamlessly, look no further than the team at STARS Campus Solutions, a leader in comprehensive postsecondary career college management systems. We work every day to provide school leaders with the tools they need to run successful schools.
